My name is Phillip... and I am a Modern Gnostic... but what is that?
A Gnostic is a person who possesses Gnosis... OK, that makes sense.
Gnosis is a Greek word that means “Knowledge”
Wikipedia says that:
Gnosis is the Greek noun for knowledge. Gnosis commonly refers to specialized, intuitive, or secret spiritual knowledge, rather than just intellectual information. It signifies direct, experiential knowledge of God and Spirituality, often viewed as the secret knowledge required for the liberation of the soul. But what does that mean?
Back in 1952, I was born into a Christian family that went to church several times each week, but I never really felt a connection to the teachings or to the church, itself. As a child I often asked questions about Jesus and the church teachings, but my questions most usually went unanswered. I was told; Go ask the Bishop, go ask your father, go look in the Bible, write a letter to the church president... I was 7 years old.
I always felt and thought that I was different from the others. I felt like, NO... I knew.... I had this innate knowledge that we could have a personal, actual connection with God... or this thing we call God, without the the Bishop or the church. The church always seemed difficult, convoluted, or not quite completely true... kind of in-the-way.
I never understood why God always had to have a hierarchical structure – you know, where someone is always on the top and someone always on the bottom of a Power and Wealth organization like a church – it just really seemed to me to be more like Man Created, and not so much like what God should be.
So I decided to go ahead and find out... go and find the TRUTH about God, Jesus, Religion, and who we really are.
Here is a short story about the LIE and the TRUTH that illustrates exactly what I found about Religion and TRUTH... this is fun.
The story of the Lie and the Truth
According to a centuries old legend, the Truth and the Lie meet one day. The Lie says to the Truth: "It's a marvelous day today"! The Truth looks up to the skies and sighs, for the day was really beautiful. They spend a lot of time together, ultimately arriving beside a well. The Lie tells the Truth: "The water is very nice, let's take a bath together!" The Truth, once again suspicious, tests the water and discovers that it indeed is very nice. They undress and start bathing. Suddenly, the Lie comes out of the water, puts on the clothes of the Truth, and runs away. The furious Truth comes out of the well and runs everywhere to find the Lie and to get her clothes back. The World, seeing the Truth naked, turns its gaze away, with contempt and rage.
The poor Truth returns to the well and disappears forever, hiding there in, its shame. Since then, the Lie has traveled around the world, dressed as the Truth, satisfying the needs of society, because, the World, in any case, harbors no wish at all to meet the naked Truth.
